Reducing Intermittency by Decorrelating Sources

The plots below show the potential for reducing wind intermittency through the expansion of the grid and interconnecting geographically dispersed wind farms.  As decorrelation increases the overall intermittency of the aggregated resource reduces.


Wind Correllation

The graphs below show the increased predictability of the amount of generation as larger geographic areas are aggregated.  In other words, more wind farms, further apart, do not vary their output quickly.  See description below.
