Solar Production Update

According to Credit Suisse solar production is expected to be 27GW in 2012. Assuming a capacity factor of 1/6 for solar and 90% for nuclear that represents the equivalent of adding 5 nuclear power plants.

Adding this to the world’s cumulative solar capacity as of the end of 2011 of 67 GW (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Photovoltaics#cite_note-epia2012-4) and the total is 94 GW. At the end of 2012, solar energy will have replaced the energy production of about 18 nuclear power plants.
